Tony-Hunt.jpg

Tony Hunt was born in Winchester in 1943. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School in Southampton, and studied art at the Southern College of Art in Southampton, and Liverpool Polytechnic. He taught design, illustration, printmaking, painting and life drawing at the art schools in Southampton, Le Havre, Wolverhampton and Salisbury. In 1977 he was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and has served in turn as Exhibition Secretary, Hon. Secretary and Vice-President during his membership. He has exhibited paintings widely in group and one-man shows in England and Wales, and abroad in France, Germany, the United States, Canada and China.

Of his work, he writes of an interest in the connections between things, and how these lead to an examination of disparities which can engender paradoxes in visual meaning, and how these might be represented in paint. Such ambiguities in image-making can be fertile ground for poetic expression, often developed in his work by a passionate connection with the landscape of his native Hampshire.
